Week of February 12-16

  • Congratulations to the following students who placed in the Geography Bee: Joe Sorenson (6th grade) 1st place, Keegan Wehrwein (5th grade) 2nd place and Toby Janssen (7th grade) 3rd place.

  • The WBES Student Council will be hosting a food drive for the Elkhorn Area Food Pantry during the month of February.  There are specific items in need so each week the student council is requesting the following items:

    • Week 3 - February 19-23: Pets Week --- Dog Food/Treats, Cat Food/Treats, Bleach, Cat Litter, Paper Towels, etc.

    • Week 4 - February 26-March 2: Canned Good, Condiments and Boxed Items --- Chicken Noodle Soup, Pancake Mix, Rice Packages Pasta Sides, Pork and Beans, Canned hash, Ranch Dressing, Italian Dressing, Pancake Syrup, Mustard, BBQ Sauce

  • The noon hour basketball championship will be held on Wednesday, February 21 at 2:30 in the elementary gym.   Our 5th grade choir will be providing some entertainment.  All classes and parents are invited to watch.

  • The second day of the spring Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on February 20 from 3:45-7:15.  This year spring conferences will be primarily be for specific students that teachers feel an additional conference is necessary.  Parents are welcome to contact teachers to arrange a conference if one is desired or if you have questions or concerns about a conference date/time that was requested.

  • Emergency/Crisis Planning: The safety of our staff and students is our highest priority, so in order to better be able to deal with a possible armed intruder, we have partnered with the Williams Bay Police Department, the Williams Bay Fire Department and the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department to conduct a lockdown/intruder drill.  This drill will take place on Thursday, February 22nd, the day of our staff inservice day.  We routinely practice fire and tornado drills, but have not conducted a lockdown/intruder drill in recent years.  With the opening of the new elementary school, we feel this is an important area to practice to insure the safety of all students.  We will be planning a lockdown drill, with students present in the future.  Parents and students will be informed of the date of this drill prior to it occurring.

  • We will be showing the movie “Wonder” during Read Day on March 2.  If you do not want your child to watch “Wonder” on Read Day please contact your child’s teacher and we will engage your child in an alternate activity.  If you have questions about the activities planned for Read Day, please contact your child’s teacher.

  • Williams Bay Elementary School will host 4K screening on Thursday, March 8 and Friday, March 9.  Children who will be four years old on or before September 1, 2018 are eligible for 4K/P.A.W.S. attendance.  All students will be required to provide a certified copy of their birth certificate.  Information will be sent home soon requesting name and address of children you believe will be 4K/P.A.W.S. age in the fall of 2018.

  • Change for 5th grade band lessons beginning 2018-19 School Year:

    • Band lessons will be offered to 5th grade students before school from 7:45-8:15.  Each instrument will be provided with a consistent day for lessons each week.  This will provide a better opportunity for students to practice the instrument at home regularly.  Providing band lessons before school will provide an opportunity for more effective and efficient instruction in the classrooms as it is a challenge to find large chunks of time for all of the important content areas that are taught.  Students whose parent cannot get them to school for lessons will have the opportunity to ride the MS/HS bus the one day per week for the band lesson, if needed.  This is conditional on the ability to develop a MS/HS schedule for The band teacher that allows this to happen.

  • Lost and Found:  The table that contains lost and found items is overflowing.  Please check the table for items your child may be missing.  We will be donating items left on the table to Good Will on February 21 after the last conference day.
