Bulldog Bites

      from the elementary school

Week of March 26-30

  • The student performance of Mary Poppins on March 22 & 23 was fantastic.  Well done to all those who were involved in this wonderful production!
  • Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the WBES Forensics Competition.  The following students will move on to the East Division competition at Star School in Lake Geneva on Saturday, April 21.

  • Yearbook Order Forms:  Look for the yearbook order forms to come home after spring break!
  • Seal a Smile and Dental Survey forms for grades 4K, 5K, 2nd, 3rd and 5th are due after spring break.  Please remember to return these forms on Monday, April 9.
  • The lockdown/intruder drill went very well on Wednesday, March 28.  Staff and students responded quickly and quietly to find a location in classrooms or other locations throughout the building that kept them out of sight and safe.  Once again I commend all those involved for talking about and practicing this drill similarly to all of our other regularly practiced drills. The most important message we are focusing on with the elementary students is that regardless of the situation or the drills we practice we will do everything in our power to keep students safe.

  • Wisconsin Forward Assessment: The Wisconsin Forward Exam is designed to gauge how all students are doing in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards.  These standards outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be college career ready. The Forward Exam is administered online in the spring of each school year at:

  • Grades 3-8 in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics
  • Grades 4 and 8 in science and,

  • Grades 4,8, and 10 in social studies.

Williams Bay Elementary School students in grades 3-5 will participate in these assessments between April 16-May 1.  We have been working with students to prepare for these assessments using test taking strategies for content areas as well as social emotional strategies.  Teachers have also been working with students using test preparation booklets to help student become familiar with the types of vocabulary and questions they will experience when taking these assessments.

We take all assessments very seriously.   Results provide information about student performance, allowing teachers to target instruction to student needs.  Assessment results also enable teachers to reflect upon their own instructional practices. Students, administrators and parents also gain valuable information that provides a better understanding of what students know and what we can do to support and assist them.  Sample or practice test questions can be found at  There is also an online tools training that are available for students and is intended to give students the opportunity to practice with the tools available on the Forward Exam.  More information regarding the Wisconsin Forward Exam will be shared with families in the near future. Families who are interested in more information are welcome to contact the Office of Student Assessment at

  • Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy Arbor Day Event:  We will be planting trees at KNC on Thursday April 26.  Busses have been arranged to transport all students to KNC in the morning to plant trees from 10:00-11:45.  All students should bring a sack lunch to school on April 26 to have a picnic when we return from planting trees.

  • Williams Bay School’s 71st Annual Fun Fair will be help on Friday, May 4th from 5:30-7:30.  We are looking for donations and volunteers. Please see the Fun Fair Flyer that was sent home and attached to the email with this Bites information.
